Since its inception in 2010, the Turkey Challenge has become one of the most anticipated events in Colorado. What makes the Turkey Challenge so special?

First, you start with the vision, experience, and passion of 6x CrossFit Games athlete Pat Burke.

Then you scale the event to a level that gets people's attention:
500+ athletes
2,000 spectators
Multiple competition arenas with spectator seating and emcee's
Vendor village for up to 30 vendors
Live DJ
$15,000+ in cash and prizes

Then you bring together the community of volunteers, sponsors and vendors, and spectators to share the effort and make the vision come to life.

Finally, you add the regions most dedicated fitness enthusiasts who have trained all year to see how their skills hold up against the best of the best.

This combination of vision, scale, community, and the best athletes in the region is what makes the Turkey Challenge so special.

KB sets will be done in sets of 12, with the first 12 done on the right hand, and the second 12 done on the left hand. Athletes must do at least 12 reps before switching out.

The KB can be swung between the legs and is not required to touch the ground on each rep. Lockout overhead with hips, knees open and the torso vertical is required for the rep to count.

Scoring: For Weight: Heavier is Better | Tiebreaker: Time after set of 6

TEAM EVENT 2

“SPEAR THROW”

Event sponsored by:

Day/Time: Saturday 9:30-3:30pm.

Location: Boneyard room located near field entrance

*Sign up will open starting 5pm at Friday athlete check in. Area will be open for warm up/practice from 9:00 to 9:20.

DESCRIPTION

Each athlete will get 90-seconds to complete as many reps as possible of:

1 Sandbag to shoulder

1 Spear throw

*Add 1 rep of Sandbag to shoulder after each round.

6-minute cap

SCORING

100 points available. A final team score will be the combined amount of “reps/points” from each team member.

WORKOUT FLOW

On the call of 3, 2, 1, - GO! Each team member will go into the lane one at a time and work within the allotted 90-second time. At each interval, the athlete must be replaced with the next athlete in line.

Each athlete will begin doing the required buy in movement. At the completion of the buy in, they must either make a spear throw attempt or touch the fence before continuing to their next set of the buy in movement. Reps for the buy in movement as well as touching the fence, and an unsuccessful spear throw will be counted for 1 point each. A successful spear throw will be counted for 10 points.

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

Buy in - The buy in will be an ascending ladder of sandbag to shoulder. For example: Rnd 1 = 1 Sandbag to shoulder + 1 spear throw attempt or 1 fence touch

Rnd 2 = 2 Sandbag to shoulder + 1 spear throw attempt or 1 fence touch

Rnd 3 = 3 Sandbag to shoulder + 1 spear throw attempt or 1 fence touch

Etc.

Spear throw - Athletes will be assigned to a lane with a target, designated buy in area, and “line” from which to throw the spear from. Failure to stay within the lane, or throwing area may result in disqualification. A successful spear throw is when the spear is stuck into the target with the handle not touching the ground. If the spear is stuck into the target, but falls out, or if the handle is touching the ground, the rep will not be counted. Athletes will retrieve the spear by pulling it back with the rope connected to the spear handle from within their designated throwing areas.

Scoring: For Time: Fastest is Better | Time Cap: 18

MOVEMENT STANDARDS

Synchro toes to bar - standard toe to bar technique with both athletes touching a portion of the feet to the bar at the same time.

Synchro fat bar shoulder to overhead - Athletes may use any method to get bar overhead - press, push press, push jerk, split jerk. Synchro (and rep count) is counted by both athletes being locked out overhead at the same time.

Rope climbs - Athletes will climb the rope using whatever method they wish and touch the beam at the top. They must come down below a marked line on the rope before jumping off the rope (for safety reasons).

Synchro pull ups - Standard pull up technique with both athletes starting at a hang under the bar and then their chins coming over the bar or chests to the bar at the same time. Kipping may be used.

Synchro fat bar thrusters - Both athletes will squat below parallel and finish the bar locked out overhead at the same time. The rep is counted when both athletes are locked out overhead.
